Three quick ways to create a healthier workspace

Let’s face it. It can be tough sitting in the same workspace day after day. Workplace wellness and health are quickly becoming popular, but as that happens, there are also quick things you can do to create a healthier space for yourself, whether it’s at your home office or back in the building with others.

  1. Maintain good posture: Make sure you or your company invest in strong chairs that support your back as you work. Try to resist leaning close to the computer and instead adjust your chair to that just-right setting so you feel at your most comfortable. You can also try standing desks, or sitting on an exercise ball to help improve your posture as you work.
  2. Stock up on healthy snacks. Sometimes, particularly if you’re working on a stressful project, you may have the urge to snack. This makes sense, but you’re best off stocking good healthy items that can feed your energy and brainpower. Keep power foods like almonds, raisins, nut butter, whole wheat crackers, and electrolyte water on hand to keep you feeling your best at work, and help you resist heading to the vending machine.

  3. Add your personal touches. There’s a good reason people keep pictures of their families, pets, and other important parts of their life on their desks. It’s not just a good way to show off to your co-workers! Creating a space that feels personal to you drives productivity. Bring photos, souvenirs, and memorabilia to decorate your space, and remember to add colorful items like mousepads, notepads, pens, and any other decorative items that make returning to your space feel like a friendly place for you specifically.
